Looking ForwardHaving spent nearly 95% of working life in the marine business has given me the opportunity to work with some of the great personalities and creative minds that have made this an exciting era to be involved in, this ever expanding world of creativity and technology we are currently presented with.
I have during this ongoing life's journey built boats by such outstanding designers as Sparkman and Stephens, Doug Peterson, Ben Lexcen, Bruce Farr, Bill Luders, Alan Andrews, Reichel-Pugh, Bob Perry, Gino Morrelli, Michael Peters, Nelson Marek, Butch Dalrymple-Smith, Tom Wylie and Alan Payne. Wow I never realized just how many designers creations I have been involved with 'til I started to list them.
I have had the pleasure of working in the design offices of Glade Johnson, Jack Sarin, Alan Andrews and Morrelli and Melvin, where full on race boats, cruisers, multi hulls and large super yachts have been conceived, designed and engineered. Although mainly one of the hidden back room group of whom design input has often gone unrecognized it has always been my aim to ensure that the finished product is designed, engineered and all the systems work so as to meet the clients' expectations and make them proud to own their boat and feel they are at home.
I have seen it grow from laminated wood, aluminum, polyester fiberglass, Kevlar, foam core and today the use of highly engineered carbon composites. There are lessons to be learnt from the past, experience to be learned from the present and knowledge to be gained from the future. It is this ever changing environment and the prospect of future materials and designs unseen today but of which I want to be involved and part of, that has kept me inspired and excited to get up each morning and just go to work and be part of this ongoing adventure.
